Measure performance, not confidence alone

A progress portfolio records consistent views, service context and reflections so development can be assessed over time. The goal is evidence of decision-making and improvement, not only a gallery of the most flattering final images.

Confidence can rise or fall for many reasons. Progress evidence should show what the learner planned, performed and repeated under comparable conditions.

Foundation benchmark

At foundation level, the learner can set up safely, name the sequence and complete a controlled attempt with frequent trainer prompts. The essential checkpoints are:

• Obtain permission before taking or publishing images.
• Use consistent front, side and rear views.
• Record the brief, tools, timing and learning focus.
• Add a short reflection and next action.

Developing benchmark

A developing learner notices common problems earlier, including Posting identifiable clients without appropriate consent.; Using filters or angles that hide technical evidence.; Saving images without dates, context or reflection.. They can pause, state the likely cause and choose a limited correction rather than waiting for rescue.
